Sewing "Style File

What inspire you to create? Do you have so many ideas, you can hardly decide what to do next?
I get inspired by many things.I read magazines, watch TV,surf the Internet and people watch. Most of my sewing projects are born from magazines. My favorite fashion mags are InStyle and Lucky. My favorite sewing mags are Threads and Vogue patterns.
I keep a "style file".This is the main tool that helps me to decide what to sew next.My "style file "is a huge notebook with removable plastic page holders. This allows me to remove the pages and take them to the fabric store. It also helps with accessory purchases.

I'll add swatches of fabric to pages after the garment has been completed. It's always fun and satisfying to look back and see looks I've copied and the money I've saved.

I know that many people have similar ways of keeping that sewing juice flowing.I love to hear about it.If you feel like sharing your "style file" or similar system, email me a picture with your tips.Put,"style file"in the subject box.I'll post them here with a link to your blog or site.

Don't leave me hanging.LOL

THIS IS SUCH A GREAT IDEA PUT INTO MOTION! I have thought about something similar, but never got it off the ground. Think I will start one like yours. It would be great to have all of my ideas in one central place.

Hey Lisa, That is a really great idea. I've never done anything like that but I think it would be very helpful with clearing the clutter out of my brain and distilling the ideas down to pure style. Fabulous!!

My 'system' is pulling magazine pages and tossing them into a drawer. This is better.

Hey Ms. Lisa!

I JUST started a file JUST like yours for my knitting projects!

For sewing! I cut out the pictures from magazine and glue them w/ a glue stick to an index card. When it's time to go fabric shopping I take my index card with me! I find that t's great for handsfree shopping. Once I buy the material/notions/pattern etc. I write down the specifics on the lined side of the index card! And I bought an Index card Case for like a buck to store them all in.

What a great idea. I do something similar but know where near that neat. I just slap mine up on my corkboard.

That is a perfect idea. I definitely need to get on to that. Right now I'm so overwhelmed by all my To Sew Projects that I haven't sewed in 2 weeks.

Very cool. This looks like the "mood board" that designers use. I am going to put something like this together to help me organize my ideas. Thanks for inspiring.

Your style file is amazing...I keep pictures in a sketch book but not in as orderly a fashion as you have! I also put the most pressing pictures up on my corkboard so that I will see them everyday...and then there is the picture inspiration file on the computer! Gosh, I have stuff stored everywhere!

I love your notebook- have been trying to get things together to do that myself, so far all I have is a pile of ideas and labels and swatches. Thanks for showing us what you do!
