Hello Funny Pants

Today was my day off from work.I decided to make a muslin for pants from my weekend pattern purchase,Butterick 5192.This is a Connie Crawford Long, pattern. It boasts "modern fit with ready-to-wear sizing",which appealed to me,because sometimes I'm lazy, and don't want to do a muslin.However.something in the back of my mind said,"make a wearable muslin"and I'm glad I did.

I took my hip and waist measurements and cut out the appropriate size and put together my muslin. I make them Capri length because I was limited in fabric and figured if they fit I could use them next spring. This was not to be.They are waaay to big.
Have you ever made something so funny looking, that you could get mad, because you were laughing so hard? When I turned and look at the butt in the mirror,I almost fell out...laughing that is.
Look out!
The center back of the waistband has a little hill in it.I think that is for extra butt room so that, when you sit, your pants don't slide down.
I'm going to go back to one of my TNT pants patterns.I'm not knocking Connie Crawford Long's pattern,I'm just telling you that this one runs extremely large and it was far from the "ready-to-wear"pants,I've ever worn.
I'll try the jacket from the pattern some other time.Right now, I need pants.
Oh well ,back to the sewing room.

I had a mishap with a Connie Crawford pants pattern too. Maybe you can donate them.

I tried that same pattern (B5192) from Connie Crawford and I didn't even cut out the back leg piece. I put my sloper over the pattern piece & I knew I had a big problem. I went to my TNT pant pattern drafted from Pattern Master Boutique. I told myself that I'd come back to this pattern later but I haven't. Like you, I think I'll try the jacket later. So far, I'm not impressed with her patterns. I have several other Connie Crawford patterns in my collection.

That is absolutely amazing. I haven't yet bought a Connie Crawford pattern, but I've contemplated one or two. I may hold off after your experience. I just bought McCall's 5239 Palmer/Pletsch pants pattern. The instructions give a lot of wonderful sewing advice so perhaps that pattern will be the best for a first-ever attempt at making pants.

Lisa, I'm sorry I didn't warn you about these patterns. Those pants fit terrible, good thing it was only a muslin. Throw them away. I will warn you about how she gets away with no darts. She rotates them to under bust darts and then doesn't sew them. Her garments hang from the breasts in a maternity way looking very unattractive. Also, on that jacket, the sleeves are very dropped and that never flatters a well endowed women. Enough said.

that is way too funny. I have that pattern on the top of my pile. I guess I will try a muslin first. Or maybe another pattern

Bummer. I just bought that pattern, too. And fabric for it. This is good to know. Sorry for your wasted time.

I know I would have been frustrated. I have a hard time making pants already so when I find a pattern that fits this way , I get soooo upset. I guess the old saying is true, "go with what you know"

Oh My GOD! This is not good. Thank you so much for this post. I have bought several Connie Crawford patterns for my mom. They appear to be stylist, but based on your results and Sherry's comment these patterns are a bummer.

Thanks for sharing - I won't be picking out that pattern during Joanne's 1.99 Butterick pattern sale.

I say get rid of the pattern and the muslin.

That is hysterical but so good of you to share, I know you saved me some frustration, I have that pattern but now I won't bother with it. Thanks for the laugh.

I've heard that her patterns run large, but this a hot mess. On the other hand for me it's rear to get anything oversized, but this a new one...HA! Not laughing at you, but the pattern.

I've made her pants pattern too and it is a right mess! I had that same 'hill' in the center back and only noticed it after the fact, which threw me into self-doubt as to whether the mistake was mine in cutting it out.....
I also made her t-shirt and it is also a trash pan product. In fact, I did a Jalie t-shirt at the same time, similar style and I used the same fabric to test both. The Jalie was a wearable shirt.

I wouldn't give the pattern to anyone, just trash it. It should be taken out of circulation. And to think I purchased almost all of her patterns when they were offered on special sale. I'll use them as packaging material. Sorry Ms. Crawford but that is not the way to go about constructing the pants back for more derriere space.
