Easy-Peasy Sewing

My sewing time has been limited lately, because of my work schedule. But I refuse to let it rob me completely of my joy. I just decided to do a couple of easy projects. I choose a couple of unlined jackets. Butterick 4817 and Shapes-Nine Lives Vest
The Butterick 4817 jacket is made using 4 pattern pieces, front back, sleeves and facings. I
wanted to try a couple of techniques I learned recently,at the sewing expo. I learned about matching large prints and adding a little extra to the front of a jacket so that it doesn't gap open with every move. I haven't hemmed it yet. This fabric is a linen blend, given to me by my friend,Ebony.

The Shapes-Nine Live Vest,is a new pattern by Louise Cutting and Linda Lee. I purchased it at the sewing expo. It consist of 4 pieces, two fronts,a back and a collar. I made it right out of the package to get an idea of how it would fit. The vest has an asymmetrical cut front. I haven't found the right buttons yet. I'd like something really different. This fabric is another piece of linen blend given to me by Ebony.I have the day off tomorrow, and I plan to spend it in my sewing room. I just recieved my Speigel and Coldwater Creek catalogs and my head is swimming with ideas.

Both pieces are so SHARP. When you told me about the fabric choices, I could not remember for the life of me which ones they were. That is turly a sign that you either have too much fabric or that you have away too much fabric. I am glad that you found a pattern to suit each piece of fabric. Both will look sharp with your new hair - do.

Your jacket are so spring-like and fun. I haven't the nerve to match fabric prints...yet. Speaking of fabric. I don't dare go to Gail K. I know they have spring and summer fabric in stock and I've exceed my sewing budget this month at expo :)

Very nice pieces, great matching of the print, you'll have to teach me that one.

I love both, you have to share the matching technique. How awesome that they're both from gifted fabric.

Both tops are very nice. I've been following your lead and sticking to some easy projects...that is until I decided I must have double welt slant pockets on the pair of slacks I'm working on now but I'm taking my time. I'm going to have to get that Nine Lives vest pattern.

Love both jackets, especially the blue floral. I see the way you match the print in the from of the jacket. Very nice

I have the Butterick 4817 pattern. Your jacket looks great. I usually stay away from large prints. I'd love to learn your technique for matching the large prints. I think I need to make up the jacket for a quick spring/summer jacket.

What a great job you did matching prints on the blue floral jacket -- the big flower on the front looks perfect!

Wow! I am so impressed with that jacket. It is so accurate, so perfect and I bet you'll get a load of wear from it. I can already picture the things I'd wear it with. The assymetric top is gorgeous. I was unsure when I first saw the pattern, but seeing one made up changed my mind. The colour is lovely and I really like the stand up collar. It's going to be a really flattering look with your hairstyle and will frame your face beautifully. I see it with pants and lovely chunky beads. I think I'm going to have to have this pattern now! Thanks for the inspiration.

Hey Lisa: How's the weather in your neck of the woods? We had a tornado turn two trucks over in Nashville yesterday. Lots of rain.

Yes, do share that layout tip you've learned, when you get time!

BTW do you like wearing the Shapes garments you've made? I think the most important part of sewing is in the comfy wearing. I haven't tried this pattern line out yet.

I am so impressed with your pattern matching. I have a big floral coming up and have been putting it off for this very reason, now I am inspired.
