The Sewing Week - Jacket Part 2

Now for the continuing story.Using the techniques found in the book,Fit For Real People by Pati Palmer and Marta Alto ,I move happily on to a great fitting jacket. The first pin fitting on the fashion fabric reveals that this technique is working for me.I'm amazed that a smaller pattern and a few alterations could give me this fit ,with room to tweak.
The fabric I'm using is white w/beige pinstripes. It is twill, given to me by Ebony during her stash reduction. She's a diva with a halo.
The one thing I'd like to suggest is ,stay stitch all curved and horizontal seams before pin fitting to prevent stretching that may occur. Here is the back view. The wrinkles at the shoulders are pinned in darts. Looks like I can afford to take a little up in the center of the back seam.(notice the sag wrinkles)
I will show all pattern alterations used during a later post.
I've decided that I'll need to interline this jacket because the interfacing will show thru.
More tomorrow. It's late and I'm sleepy.

It is looking GREAT!

One little hint just in case ... be sure to try it on with whatever you're going to wear underneath it because even a thin blouse (and lining) *will* make a difference.

Oh, I am so excited to see the progress. Now, the one thing I will say about the fabric that you are going to make the jacket out of is that a may tend to get a little itchy. But I guess if you line it it wouldn't matter. I am so excited to see the end result. And also , you have a good fit going on? When are we going to sew again?Or go to the fabric stores?

Lisa I am really enjoying the jacket fitting adventure. Now I've got to get busy and find that fitting book. I wish I could be there with you to see every step of this process.

I purchased the same book two years ago and that's how I discovered that I was not fitting myself correctly. I have the same fitting issues as you. I just posted my first review (a blouse - after 6 muslins) showing my finised results. I plan to show more details in the future on my process. I will be following your progress.

You are doing a really good job of fitting yourself. This book has a wealth of info. Will watch and wait for finished jacket.
